Here at ICR we have over 30 insect colonies. All our colonies are reared and maintained on premises and are susceptible to insecticides. We also have the means to test many other species and special orders can be made to accommodate testing.
ICR maintains the only commercially-available body louse colony in the Western Hemisphere. Many head louse control products had their initial evaluation at ICR since the body louse is the surrogate species for the head louse. For screening or comparing a number of formulations, our system is considerably cheaper and faster than conducting clinical studies. Precise numbers of even-age lice or nits can be tested under ASTM protocols. ICR developed the ASTM standard protocols for evaluating louse control products for adults (E938-83) and eggs (E1517-93).
